Gone are the days where a male lead was important to carry the success of either movies or serials.
Amazon Prime Video’s romantic comedy-drama has come up with its first original comedy from India and its first new TV show of 2019. The name of the series is “Four More Shots Please” which has Bani J, Kirti Kulhari, Maanvi Gagroo, and Sayani Gupta in the lead roles. The series follows the lives of four “urban, imperfect, modern Indian women and their perfect, life-affirming, friendship”.
The series is produced by Pritish Nandy and created by his daughter Rangita Pritish Nandy (Pyaar Ke Side Effects. Well, not just the cast but a large section of the crew of this series also include females such as Devika Bhagat (Jab Tak Hai Jaan) and Ishita Moitra (Half Girlfriend) as the writers, and Anu Menon (Waiting) as director. ‘Four More Shots Please’ was out on January 25 on Amazon Prime Video. Surprisingly Bani (MTV Roadies) caught my attention with her extremely amazing acting skills. She’s playing the role of a bisexual fitness trainer. It really takes guts to play such roles without caring much about what the society will think of her.
There are a total of 10 episodes in the new Amazon series!
Supporting cast has also done an exceptional job which includes popular names from the film industry such as Prateik Babbar (Dhobi Ghat) as Jeh Wadia, the owner of a bar that the leads frequent, Lisa Ray (Water) as Samara Kapoor, a fictional Bollywood star who's a closeted lesbian, Milind Soman (Bajirao Mastani) as a gynecologist named Dr. Aamir Warsi, and Amrita Puri (Aisha) as Varun's new girlfriend Kavya Arora.
The hotties of 90’s, Milind Soman and Lisa Ray are brilliantly casted for their roles. Prateik is another excellent newcomer who has so much heart behind the bar.
The storyline of the show made it only for 18+ btw!
Prior the launch of the show two trailers were released. While one was rated adults-only, the other was for everyone. Also Amazon released two music videos for two original songs, one made up of footage from the show (giving the first glimpse of the adventures), while the other one was shot with playback artist Darshan Raval.
Talking about the story and concept of the show, I must say that it is definitely breaking the ‘taboos’ and ‘norms’ of the society. The show is all about Girls, Sex and the City. The acting of all the actors especially the four leading ladies is on spot. How can I forget about the soundtrack of the show! I absolutely loved how each of the characters is woven and they’re so real with tons of real feelings and emotions.
Watch the trailer of FOUR MORE SHOTS PLEASE:
The entire star cast is super-duper hot……….!
Damini (Sayani Gupta) is an independent journalist who prefers masturbation to sex because it's efficient. Anjana (Kirti Kulhari) is a single mother who shares a roller-coaster relationship with her ex-husband, Varun Khanna (Neil Bhoopalam). Umang (Bani), and Siddhi (Maanvi Gagroo) is a virgin who hates her mother Sneha (Simone Singh, from Kal Ho Naa Ho) for how she treats her.
Kirti Kulhari has done complete justice with her character of single mom. Surely all the single moms would be able to relate to how hard the single mom's life was and what mommy guilt was all about. The show has given an Indian twist to the Hollywood film ‘Sex and the city’.
What is more appreciating is that the actors and the producers have tried their level best to portray the reality of what others expect, the selfishness, lies and pain that hinders the ability to be whom we are, also respected for doing so.
To watch this show, you can download the Prime Video app on most platforms or visit primevideo.com to watch the show online. You will need a subscription to watch the show. In India, Prime Video costs Rs. 129 per month or Rs. 999 for the year.
There's a ton of passion in every episode and these 4 women are just amazing to watch and have their lives unravel. I can't wait for a season 2 if the producers plan to make one.
